Renault Trafic E-Tech 2027: 800V Charging and 292-Mile Range Shake Up Medium Electric Vans

Renault has opened UK order books and confirmed full pricing and specifications for the all-new Trafic E-Tech electric. Crowned International Van of the Year 2027, the mid-size commercial van targets established segment heavyweights like the Ford E-Transit Custom by introducing 800-volt charging technology to the medium electric van market for the first time.

Powertrains, Charging, and Range The Trafic E-Tech is driven by a single electric motor delivering 201 bhp (218 PS) and 345 Nm of torque. Buyers can choose between two lithium-ion battery packs. The entry-level option is a 60 kWh unit aimed at urban delivery cycles, offering a 217-mile driving range. Long-distance operators can step up to an 81 kWh battery pack, which pushes official WLTP range up to 292 miles.

The headline advancement is the vehicle's 800V electrical architecture. When equipped with the 81 kWh pack, the van supports DC rapid charging at speeds up to 240 kW, allowing an 80 percent recharge in under 20 minutes. Built-in Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capabilities also come as standard, allowing tradespeople to run power tools directly from the traction battery.

Practicality, Trims, and Software Renault offers the Trafic E-Tech in panel van and crew van layouts across two wheelbases (L1 and L2). Maximum cargo volume ranges from 5.1 cubic metres on the L1 model to 5.8 cubic metres on the L2, accommodating up to three Euro pallets. Maximum payload tops out at 1,300 kg, complemented by a 2,000 kg braked towing capacity.

The range is split across Advance and Extra trims. Base Advance models receive a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, adaptive cruise control, a reversing camera, and all-round parking sensors. Extra adds wireless mobile charging, metallic paint, lumbar adjustments, and a mobile office cabin configuration with 230V internal power sockets. Developed as a Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV), the system also allows fleet operators to run native bespoke software and receive lifelong over-the-air updates.

UK Pricing and Availability Pre-orders are open now. UK prices start at £38,000 excluding VAT for the short-wheelbase L1H1 Advance with the 60 kWh pack. The 81 kWh battery starts from £43,000 ex VAT, while the larger L2H1 body starts at £44,000. Crew van variants add a £2,500 premium over panel van equivalents. On-the-road pricing starts at £41,715 once VAT and the government Zero Emission Vehicle Grant are applied. First customer deliveries are scheduled to arrive in Q2 2027.

Verdict: Rapid 800-volt charging that slashes depot downtime to 20 minutes paired with a competitive 292-mile range makes the Trafic E-Tech one of the strongest medium electric van packages yet, provided its real-world motorway efficiency delivers.
